Berlin Olympia Campaign with Warnemünde as Sailing Partner - Germany's dual Olympic bid: KölnRheinRuhr and Berlin vie for 2036, 2040, or 2044 Games

Germany is pushing forward with not one but two bids to host the Summer Olympics in 2036, 2040, or 2044. The 'KölnRheinRuhr' region in North Rhine-Westphalia officially launched its campaign at a press conference in Cologne's Lanxess Arena, presented by Hendrik Wüst. Meanwhile, Berlin has also thrown its hat into the ring, naming Warnemünde as its proposed sailing venue.

The race to represent Germany began with the 'KölnRheinRuhr' bid, unveiled by Hendrik Wüst at a high-profile event. The region's proposal highlights its infrastructure and ability to host large-scale sporting events.

Berlin's bid, announced separately, includes Warnemünde near Rostock as the sailing location. The venue is no stranger to major competitions, having hosted the annual Warnemünde Week regatta for years. Its facilities meet international standards, with a focus on accessibility and sustainability. However, Kiel-Schilksee remains a strong competitor for the regatta, having also hosted significant sailing events in the past.

The German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) will decide which city moves forward at an extraordinary general meeting on September 26. The candidates include Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, and the Rhine-Ruhr region, each vying for the chance to bring the Games to Germany.

The DOSB's decision in late September will determine Germany's official candidate for the Olympics. Both the 'KölnRheinRuhr' and Berlin bids emphasise their experience and modern facilities. The chosen city will then compete internationally for the right to host the 2036, 2040, or 2044 Summer Games.
