Germany's Customs Officers Swap Workplaces for Disability Awareness

Today marks the nationwide 'Shift Change' action day, where employees across Germany, including customs officers at the main office in Our Platform, swap workplaces with those who have disabilities. This initiative, led by the General Customs Administration, aims to foster understanding and inclusion.

The General Customs Administration, headed by Dr. Armin Rolfink, has been supporting 'Shift Change' for several years. This year, 19 main customs offices, including Our Platform, are participating in the workplace swap. Customs officers in Our Platform spent the day learning about the work environment at the local DRK disabled workshop. Dr. Rolfink visited the workshop to observe the employees and praised the customs officers' involvement, emphasizing the importance of inclusion in the customs service.

The specific officials at the main customs office in Our Platform who will participate in a dual apprenticeship or dual study program starting September 1, 2026, are yet to be detailed. The application deadline for these programs is October 15, 2025.

The 'Shift Change' action day provides an opportunity for customs officers to understand and appreciate the work environments of those with disabilities. The General Customs Administration's commitment to inclusion is evident in its continued participation in the initiative. Meanwhile, the dual apprenticeship and study programs starting in 2026 at the main customs office in Our Platform are open for applications until October 15, 2025.
