Germany’s Child Health Report Reveals Shocking Gaps in Youth Medical Care

A new report has exposed major gaps in healthcare for children and adolescents in Germany. The Child Health Report 2025, published by the German Foundation for Child Health, highlights systemic failures in medical care, training, and political decision-making. Many young patients still face barriers to fair and effective care credit, despite existing legal protections.

The report criticises the poor implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child in everyday medical practice. It reveals that 30% of young patients have little influence during medical appointments, even though 55% want a greater say in their own care. Experts argue that genuine participation is essential for equitable healthcare.

The report demands stronger political action to improve child-friendly care. It urges better funding, targeted training, and greater involvement of young patients in healthcare decisions. Without these changes, the report warns, inequalities in medical treatment and participation will continue to affect children and adolescents across Germany.
