Germany's Cabinet Retreat Marred by Unexpected Minister Absences
Germany's federal cabinet retreat was marked by unexpected absences. Culture Minister Wolfram Weimer missed the group photo due to a family bereavement, while Transport Minister Patrick Schneider was hospitalized after fainting during the event.
Weimer's absence was announced earlier in the day. He left the retreat in the morning, canceling a planned visit to Thuringia. The minister's immediate family had suffered a loss, prompting him to return home. Christina Halwas, acting head of the Department of Art and Culture, stepped in to cover for Weimer's cancellations, visiting Thuringia on Friday.
Schneider's incident occurred later in the day. He collapsed at the table during the cabinet's retreat, necessitating a hospital visit for further examination.
Both ministers' absences were due to unforeseen circumstances. Weimer's visit to Thuringia was rescheduled, and Halwas successfully filled in for him. Schneider's health is being assessed, with updates expected in due course.
