Title: Berlin's Top Dog Whisperer: Katharina Marioth Wins The Dog Trainer Champion

Berlin's illustrious canine mentor, Katharina Marioth, hails from Spandau. Having clinched the title of 'Germany's Best Dog Trainer' on TV's Dog Trainer Champion, she bagged an additional 10,000 euros and a coveted golden food bowl! The eight-week competition hosted by Sat.1 saw eight dog trainers facing off against each other in tasks such as anti-poison bait training, retrieving, and photo shoots. In the end, it was Marioth who emerged victorious.

Marioth's life with American Staffordshire terrier, Helmut (8), is testament to her expertise. Adopted from an animal shelter, Helmut is a bundle of fun, creativity, and playfulness, sharing the couch with his human. "As long as I can send him away, he can do anything," Marioth says with a smile.

Before her career as a certified dog trainer by the IHK (Chamber of Commerce and Industry), Marioth was a board member for a hotel chain. However, her life took a pawsitive turn with Helmut's arrival, leading her to pursue a new career path as a dog trainer, which required at least 15 months of dedicated study.

In 2018, Marioth opened her dog training school in Staaken, taking advantage of affordable commercial rents and ample spaces in Spandau. She believes that dogs are more than just four-legged companions with a keen sense of smell. "The dog is a social partner," she emphasizes. Her goal is to not just train the dog to respond to "sit" or learn tricks, but to establish a harmonious bond between the dog and its owner.

Marioth's approach incorporates a profound belief in training the person before the dog. "Train the person first, then the dog," she advises. The ideal training duration, according to her, is at least one hour per month for a year. Marioth's renown has spread beyond Berlin's borders, with clients hailing from as far as Bielefeld and Hanover.

Interestingly, a recent study suggests that dogs can detect their owners' scent from miles away. While this intriguing information may seem unrelated, it highlights the unique bond between human and canine, emphasizing the importance of nurturing this partnership through proper training.
