Pipe system for remote heating line from Leuna comes from Thuringia - Germany's 19km District Heating Pipeline to Begin in 2026
A significant infrastructure project is underway in Germany. The new district heating connection from Leuna to Leipzig, spanning 19 kilometres, is set to begin commissioning in 2026. Notably, the pipe system for this project originates from Thuringia, with Isoplus District Heating Technology in Sondershausen supplying the necessary components.
The pipeline, once operational in 2028, will harness previously untapped waste heat from Leuna chemical park's production processes. This innovative approach will provide heat to approximately 100,000 households in Leipzig. The project involves manufacturing around 8,000 components in the Sondershausen plant, ensuring a streamlined assembly process.
Isoplus District Heating Technology will provide the pipes, bends, and sleeves required for the entire line. This collaboration demonstrates the region's commitment to sustainable energy solutions and local industry cooperation.
The 19-km pipeline project, commencing in 2026 and slated for completion in 2028, will significantly enhance Leipzig's district heating supply. By utilising waste heat from Leuna, it promotes sustainability and reduces reliance on traditional heating sources. The involvement of Thuringia-based Isoplus highlights the region's role in driving this innovative energy infrastructure development.
