Germany Tightens Immigration Rules After Ministerial Talks on Integration and Security
The Conference of Interior Ministers (IMSC) has wrapped up its latest meeting with several key decisions. Topics ranged from immigration news to drone defence and school safety measures. The gathering also set the stage for future conferences, with Hamburg hosting in 2026 and Hesse taking over the presidency the following year.
The IMSC backed Hesse’s push to tighten immigration policies. Under the new approach, naturalisation will only follow a proven integration process, dismissing claims that immigration alone drives integration. Stricter checks were also introduced, including expanded security screenings and a crackdown on forged language certificates. However, ministers failed to agree on excluding those with subsidiary protection from immigration policies.
The conference concluded with praise for Senator Ulrich Mäurer’s role in organising the event. With Hamburg set to host in 2026 and Hesse preparing to lead in 2027, the IMSC’s decisions will shape policies on immigration news, security, and public safety in the coming years. The agreed measures now move toward implementation across federal and state levels.
