Trump Spins a Tall Tale About Germany's Energy Strategy
Germany reportedly sets the pace for coal plant construction weekly as per Trump's claim.
In a recent meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, US President Donald Trump made an erroneous claim about Germany's energy policy. He asserted that Germany is opening a new coal power plant every week. But, that's not the truth!
The Federal Network Agency has confirmed that the last coal power plant was built in Datteln in 2020. Contrary to what Trump declared, Germany is actually committed to phasing out coal by 2038, with the traffic light coalition aiming to bring this date forward to 2030 if possible.
During the White House meeting, Trump also spoke about Germany's failed attempts with wind turbines. However, Germany has persistently tried to explore various solutions to transition away from coal. His comments about a weekly coal power plant opening spree lacked evidence and specifics.
Trump has historically championed "beautiful, clean coal" as a desirable energy source. But it's clear that Germany is gearing towards a cleaner, greener future, focusing on expanding renewable energy sources to ensure energy security during the transition. So much for Trump's weekly coal power plant fantasy!
