Watch Out: Herrmann Warns Against Hasty Reactions in Germany Amid Middle East Tension

Excessive Responses in Germany: A Closer Look - Germany needs to avoid unnecessary reactions, advises Herrmann.
The ongoing escalation between Israel and Iran has brought the safety concern for Germany to the forefront for the interior ministers. Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann (CSU) declared the Middle East situation as a "dramatic escalation" during a morning interview on Deutschlandfunk. The focus for interior ministers will be on protecting Jewish and Israeli facilities and striving to prevent any unwarranted reactions on the streets. Since the Hamas terrorist attack on Israel, there has been an increase in deadly attacks, as well as hate and incitement incidents. The interior ministers' conference is currently underway in Bremen and runs until Wednesday.
Israel launched a significant offensive on Iranian cities and nuclear facilities overnight. In response, Tehran dispatched more than 100 drones towards Israel.
Will the UN Security Council weigh in on this conflict?
SPD foreign policy expert Rolf Mützenich commented on Deutschlandfunk that it's now essential to control any potential conflagration in the Middle East. Israel has the right to self-defense, but it should be confined to an immediate threat and existential danger. Whether Israel has the justification to act in this manner will likely be a topic of discussion among members of the UN Security Council, Mützenich, a member of the Bundestag's Foreign Affairs Committee, suggested.
Mützenich also highlighted the risks of Iran's nuclear program. "Tehran has constantly been spinning this cycle, irresponsibly," he said.
