Germany launches Easter crackdown on illegal street racing and dangerous drivers

German police are preparing a major crackdown on illegal street racing and dangerous driving over the Easter weekend. The operation, set for Good Friday, April 3, 2026, targets the so-called car poser scene, which has been linked to deadly crashes in recent years. Authorities have promised stricter patrols and tougher enforcement to tackle the problem head-on. The upcoming checks will focus on hotspots where tuning fans and stunt drivers gather. Police aim to stop illegal races, unsafe vehicle modifications, and reckless behaviour before they happen. This marks the fifth year Baden-Württemberg's officers have joined the nationwide effort.

By April 2026, 15 of Germany's 16 federal states will have taken part in similar operations—only Saarland has yet to join. Last year alone, officers inspected over 19,000 vehicles during these checks. The inspections uncovered thousands of violations and led to more than 1,400 cars being impounded. The push is part of a broader federal campaign to clamp down on illegal tuning and stunt driving. Authorities have made it clear they will take a hard line, increasing patrols and penalties for offenders.

The operation reflects growing concerns over fatal accidents tied to illegal racing. With stricter checks and a focus on high-risk areas, police hope to reduce dangerous driving incidents. The Easter weekend crackdown is just one step in an ongoing effort to make roads safer.
