Germany eyes World Cup qualification after 2-0 win over Luxembourg

Germany secured a 2-0 victory against Luxembourg in a World Cup qualifier, with Julian Nagelsmann's side aiming to secure direct qualification with a win over Slovakia on Monday. Meanwhile, Said El Mala has left the senior squad and will return to the U21 team.

El Mala did not feature in Germany's win over Luxembourg, with his inclusion in the senior squad partly due to Karim Adeyemi's suspension for that match. Now that Adeyemi is available, El Mala is no longer needed as a backup for the Slovakia game. Head coach Julian Nagelsmann had already planned for El Mala's return to the U21 team after the Slovakia match. The U21 team faces Georgia in a European Championship qualifier on Tuesday.

Nagelsmann called up Assan Ouédraogo into the senior group, with the player set to stay with the squad for the final qualifier against Slovakia. This could see Ouédraogo earn his 21st international cap under Nagelsmann. The coach praised El Mala's performance in training and his help in welcoming late call-up Ouédraogo.

Germany looks to secure direct World Cup qualification with a win over Slovakia in Leipzig on Monday. Following the match, Said El Mala will return to the U21 squad, while Assan Ouédraogo could make his 21st international appearance.
