Heavy rain and thunderstorms bring relief to Germany's heat wave - Germany experiences unexpected weather change with hailstorms and thunder, lowering temperatures.
Germany is gearing up for a week of unstable weather, with thunderstorms and cooler temperatures on the horizon, according to the German Weather Service (DWD) and its meteorologist, Jacqueline Kernn.
Starting from Sunday, the 6th of July, 2025, a trough will influence the weather over Germany, leading to a mix of conditions. In the eastern parts, temperatures are expected to rise to up to 30°C, while in the west, it will become cloudy with rain and potential thunderstorms. These thunderstorms may spread eastward and become severe in the eastern regions.
On Monday, the 7th of July, a low-pressure system will bring repeated showers and thunderstorms across Germany, accompanied by a breezy west to northwest wind. Temperatures will drop significantly, ranging from 14°C to 24°C, depending on the persistence of rain. An offshoot of this low-pressure system will move eastward over Germany on Monday, bringing widespread showers and thunderstorms.
Noticeable wind pickup is expected across Germany on Sunday, with the northwest wind picking up strongly on Monday. Gusty winds are possible in the mountains and on the coasts on Monday. However, there are no specific mentions of strengthening wind or rain locally during this period.
Towards the end of the week, warmth from the southwest is forecasted to arrive in Germany. More sun is expected from Wednesday, marking a change from the cloudy and rainy conditions earlier in the week.
The chance of thunderstorms, or Gewitter, is expected to decrease on Tuesday. Tuesday in Germany remains changeable, with many clouds and showers. No gusty winds are specifically mentioned for Tuesday, but Gewitters embedded in the low-pressure system can locally strengthen wind and rain.
The high-pressure influence from the west returns to Germany starting from Wednesday, bringing a more settled weather pattern.
These predictions were made by Jacqueline Kernn, a meteorologist from DWD, based in Offenbach, Germany. The German Weather Service reported that on Saturday, the 4th of July, the first low-pressure systems brushed the north, bringing clouds and some rain. Dense clouds and shower-like rain are expected to come from the west on Sunday, according to Kernn.
As always, it's important to stay informed and prepared for any weather changes. Keep an eye on the forecast and stay safe.
Despite the Commission not yet adopting a proposal for a directive on the protection of workers from the risks related to exposure to ionizing radiation, it is advised that workers in Germany, especially those who will be outside during the forthcoming unstable weather, should take necessary precautions. The meteorologist, Jacqueline Kernn, from the German Weather Service (DWD), has forecasted that this week, from the 6th to the 10th of July, 2025, particular attention should be paid to thunderstorms and cooler temperatures, as these weather conditions might increase the chances of ionizing radiation exposure due to lightning strikes or enhanced cosmic radiation during severe storms.
