Brazil: Germany contributes one billion for tropical forests fund - Germany commits €1 billion to global rainforest protection at COP30

Germany has pledged one billion euros to a new fund aimed at protecting the world’s rainforests. The announcement came during the COP30 climate conference in Belém, Brazil, on November 20, 2025. The initiative was launched by Brazil’s Environment Minister, Marina Silva, with strong international backing.

The fund was first proposed by Marina Silva as part of Brazil’s efforts to combat deforestation. German Environment Minister Carsten Schneider later confirmed his country’s commitment at the conference. The one-billion-euro contribution marks one of the largest single pledges for rainforest conservation.

The new fund will support projects to slow deforestation and promote sustainable land use. Germany’s financial backing is expected to accelerate these efforts. Officials have yet to outline specific allocations for the funds.
