Winter continues cold and sunny - Germany braces for a frosty but snow-free January 2026

Germany is set for a cold but dry start to January 2026, according to the latest forecast from the German Weather Service in Offenbach. Markus Übel, a meteorologist, has outlined the expected conditions for the coming weeks. Mild temperatures will give way to a sharp chill, though snow remains unlikely across the country.

Early January will see daytime highs in the single digits, offering a brief period of milder weather. By the third week, however, colder air will sweep in, dropping overnight temperatures below minus five degrees in the east and southeast. Clear skies and dry conditions will dominate, with little to no precipitation expected nationwide.

Fog and high fog will linger in valleys across southwestern Germany, reducing visibility in some areas. Meanwhile, the west will escape the worst of the freeze, experiencing only light frost. Despite the cold snap, snowfall is not forecast anywhere in the country.

The forecast suggests a frosty but snow-free January for Germany. Overnight lows in the east and southeast will dip well below freezing, while the west faces milder conditions. Dry air and clear skies will define the weather pattern for much of the month.
