Kaufmann Celebrates: Tenth European Title for Table Tennis Team - German Women's Table Tennis Team Makes History, Wins 10th European Championship
The German women's team has made history, winning the Table Tennis Team European Championships in Croatia. Led by Tamara Boros, the team defeated Romania 3:0 in the final, securing their tenth European Championship title and becoming the sole record European champions ahead of Hungary.
The German team's victory was built on the exceptional performances of its players. Annett Kaufmann, despite arriving with an elbow injury, played all six of her games and won them all. She was later named the most valuable player, defeating Europe's best singles player Bernadette Szőcs in the final. Sabine Winter, who changed her playing system and racket surface at the age of 32, also won all six of her games. Nina Mittelham, who had almost no playing practice due to a disc injury, won all four of her games, contributing significantly to the team's success.
Meanwhile, the German men's team lost in the semi-finals 1:3 against top favorite France on Saturday, highlighting the contrasting fortunes of the men's and women's teams.
This victory is a testament to the strength and resilience of the German women's table tennis team. With Annett Kaufmann now emerging as the most prominent figure in German table tennis following the retirement of Timo Boll, the team looks set to continue its dominance in the sport.
