Farewell to the Cult Show is Imminent - German TV legend Forever on Sunday ends after 31 iconic years

German variety show Forever on Sunday will end after 31 years on ARD. The long-running programme

The series first aired in 1995 and has since produced 378 episodes across 31 seasons. Over the years, it has been hosted by three presenters: Max Schautzer, Sebastian Deyle, and, since 2005, Stefan Mross. Despite its longevity, no audience data or comparisons with similar German TV formats are publicly available.

SWR's director of information programming, Clemens Bratzler, confirmed that financial pressures led to the decision. Funds previously used for the show will now be redirected—some saved, some reinvested into new digital entertainment projects. The final season will begin on 31 May 2026, featuring twelve new episodes. A special broadcast and a 'best of' compilation will mark the show's conclusion.

With its last episodes set for 2026, Forever on Sunday will close a chapter in German television history. The budget reallocation signals a shift toward digital content, though no direct replacement for the show has been announced. The final season will offer fans a chance to revisit highlights from its 31-year run.
