German Transport Minister Hospitalized, Culture Minister Misses Retreat Due to Family Bereavement
Transport Minister Patrick Schnieder was rushed to hospital after collapsing during the federal cabinet's retreat. He later recovered and was examined as a precaution. Meanwhile, Culture Minister Wolfram Weimer missed the group photo due to a family bereavement.
Schnieder, who had been feeling better after the incident, was unable to join his colleagues for the group photo. His collapse was due to a circulatory problem. Weimer, on the other hand, had left the retreat earlier in the morning following a death in his closest family. He cancelled a planned visit to Thuringia on Thursday as a result. The ministers' absences left their respective portfolios temporarily without a head, but no interim successors or replacements were immediately announced.
Both ministers are expected to return to their duties soon. Schnieder's health is no longer a concern, while Weimer has taken time off to deal with his family bereavement. The cabinet retreat continued without them, with other ministers stepping in to cover their responsibilities.
