Man from Bavaria dies in fatal skiing accident in Tyrol - German Tourist Dies in 370-Metre Plunge While Skiing in Tyrolean Alps
A 43-year-old German tourist has died after falling while skiing in the Tyrolean Alps. The accident took place on the Thaneller peak, a 2,341-metre-high mountain in the Reutte district of Tyrol. Authorities confirmed the man plunged around 370 metres to his death at an altitude of nearly 2,000 metres.
The victim was ascending the peak with a 51-year-old companion. The fall occurred around noon, just before the pair had planned to begin their descent via the mountain's north gully.
No official total has been released for ski touring or mountaineering fatalities in the Austrian Alps this year. However, recent incidents include a ski tourer's death in Obertauern on 16 September and a hiker possibly killed in an avalanche in Salzburger Land on 19 September.
The accident marks another fatality in the region's mountainous terrain. Rescue teams and local authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the fall. The companion was unharmed in the incident.
