Oberstdorf to stage 2031 Nordic World Ski Championships, as per decision by German Ski Association - German Ski Association Aims for Nordic World Cup in Oberstdorf by 2031

Hey there, winter sports enthusiasts! Get ready for some thrilling competition as we delve into the race to host the 2031 Nordic World Championships in Ski Jumping, Cross-Country Skiing, and Nordic Combined.

The main contenders for this prestigious event are none other than Oberstdorf, Germany, and Planica, Slovenia. But let's not forget that the German Ski Association (DSV) had initially pondered the idea of a joint bid with Oberwiesenthal and Klingenthal in Saxony. However, the key decision makers at the DSV have singled out Oberstdorf as the sole German candidate for the championships.

Heiko Krause, President of the Saxon Ski Association, set the record straight in a recent statement, stating, "After careful deliberations regarding our bid's potential and a thorough study of the infrastructure necessities for hosting a World Championship, we've agreed on a German bid with Oberstdorf as the location." Despite this decision, Krause expresses his continued ambition to bring the Nordic Ski World Championships to Saxony in the foreseeable future.

The race is on, and while a German victory isn't guaranteed, the German Ski Association's chances are looking pretty solid. The reason? Well, Oberstdorf has already hosted the championships in '87, '05, and even as recently as 2021, yes, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Though the 2021 championships were a "ghost" event with no spectators, it still managed to leave its mark.

Slovenia's Planica has also thrown its hat into the ring, having last hosted the World Championships in 2023, cleared of any supernatural impediments, we might add. The ultimate host will be chosen around June 2026 by the International Ski Federation (FIS), so don your winter gear and root for your favorite location!
