German Runner Johannes Loew Sets New Goals After WMTRC
Extreme runner Johannes Loew from Moehringen has set new goals after representing Germany in the national jersey at the World Mountain and Trail Running Championships (WMTRC) in Spain's Canfranc. Loew, who completed an 81 km run with over 5413 meters in altitude to qualify, aims to resume training up to 150 kilometers a week to achieve his dreams.
At the WMTRC, Loew finished 61st in the long distance, making him the second-best German participant. Despite suffering a double ligament tear in his ankle in May, Loew recovered in time to qualify for the WM by finishing second in the Zugspitz run with his ankle bandaged. Loew was impressed by the friendly respect among runners from different countries.
In the team competition, France won out of 28 teams. However, the strongest team in the Vertical (Teams) competition was Canada. The Canadian women's team secured the gold medal, setting themselves apart from strong competition from Italy, France, and other nations. Loew's running time of 10:44:08 hours helped the German team secure 15th place in the team competition.
Loew, who has completed 26 races in the last three and a half years without giving up once, plans to continue running and set new goals. The winner of the World Championships was American Jim Walmsley with a time of 8:35:11 hours. As for Loew, he looks forward to pushing his limits further and inspiring others with his determination.
