German parliamentarian Caroline Bosbach rebuffs fresh allegations made against her
Caroline Bosbach, a new member of the German Bundestag, finds herself embroiled in a controversy surrounding financial allegations.
Bosbach entered the Bundestag for the first time following the federal election, but recent developments have cast a shadow over her political career. The allegations against Bosbach aim to damage her credibility, according to her statement.
The crux of the matter revolves around Bosbach's involvement in the Mittelstands- und Wirtschaftsunion (MIT), a prominent economic association. She is currently under investigation for allegations of accepting payments and offering payments for entrance into the MIT in 2023.
Bosbach denies these allegations, stating they are based on manipulated chat logs leaked to the press. She also denies accepting 2,500 euros from a CDU party account via a roundabout route. However, recent reports indicate that her lawyers have acknowledged she accepted money related to a cash affair involving CDU party funds, but no public statement about a lawsuit has been made.
The CDU Rhein-Berg executive board is handing over all documents to the Cologne Public Prosecutor's Office for independent review. Bosbach supports this decision and is cooperating fully in the matter.
The allegations include claims that Bosbach offered a payment of 90 euros for entrance into the MIT, a sum equivalent to an annual membership fee. Free refreshments were allegedly promised to secure the election of the leadership team, including Bosbach.
In a letter to the members of the CDU in the Rhine-Berg district, Bosbach writes that she does not want the fabricated and manipulated allegations against her to be the subject of conversation at public appearances. She hopes the allegations will be clarified soon, especially given the current NRW communal election campaign.
The MIT had not yet responded to a request for comment regarding the allegations against Bosbach. Bosbach insists the allegations are false and is currently investigating whether to take legal action against the campaign.
It is important to note that Bosbach is known for her appearance on the RTL show "Let's Dance" and is the daughter of the former CDU interior politician Wolfgang Bosbach.
As of late July 2025, there is currently no confirmed update on Caroline Bosbach initiating legal action regarding allegations of manipulated chat logs and election funding. The investigation continues, and the public awaits further developments in this unfolding political drama.
