Enhancing German-French MEP Collaboration, as Proposed by President Kloeckner - German Parliament Leader Klöckner Advocates for Reinforcement of German-French MEPs Assembly Meetings
In her inaugural visit, Bundestag President Julia Klöckner sat down for a one-on-one chat with President Emmanuel Macron that lasted an hour, followed by a meet-up with Prime Minister François Bayrou the next day.
Macron displayed a genuine interest in thepublic's sentiments, particularly towards continued backing for Ukraine, confirmed Klöckner. Their discussion also steered towards the turbulent situation in the Middle East, Europe's industrial growth, and joint actions regarding the U.S.
"The anticipation for the new German administration in France is impressive," stated Klöckner, with Macron sharing that he enjoys a solid rapport with Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU). This partnership is spurring a "refreshing dynamism" in the German-French connection, said the CDU representative.
Klöckner and the President of the French National Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet, exchanged views on the state of their respective parliaments. Both countries have witnessed a sinister rise in extremist ideologies, and the centrist bloc has noticeably dwindled.
To fortify the rapport between France and Germany, Klöckner plans to rekindle city partnerships. She also lamented the closure of several Goethe-Institutes in France, vowing to tackle this issue back in Germany.
