Ploen Yacht "X-Day" Wins German Offshore Award - German Offshore Award 2025 Crowns X-Day as Top Racing Yacht
The 19th Deutscher Offshore-Preis has been awarded in Hamburg, recognising top achievements in German offshore sailing. This year's ceremony highlighted standout performances, with five yachts shortlisted for the main prize. Among the winners were both seasoned sailors and rising talents in the sport.
Five yachts competed for the 2025 German Offshore Award: X-Day, Best Buddies, Sharifa, Black Pearl, and Alithia. The 42-foot racing yacht X-Day took the top honour as Germany's most successful offshore yacht. Owned by Walter Watermann and skippered by Lars Hückstädt, the team secured the award after finishing eighth in the IRC overall standings of the Fastnet Race.
State Councilor Christoph Holstein commended the *X-Day* crew for their meticulous preparation and strong performance. The ceremony also celebrated individual achievements, with Gerd Trulsen receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award for his long and distinguished sailing career. Another highlight was the Wehring & Wolfes Youth Prize, which went to the J/70 Bundesliga junior team from the Norddeutscher Regatta Verein. The event also marked another milestone for Boris Herrmann, who has now won the German Offshore Award six times across his career with various boats.
The 2025 awards once again showcased the depth of talent in German offshore sailing. X-Day's victory in the main category followed a competitive Fastnet Race result, while younger sailors and veterans alike were recognised for their contributions. The ceremony reinforced the event's role in promoting excellence in the sport.
