German newspaper labels Ludwigsburg moderator as a national adversary.
Julia Ruhs, a young conservative figure in public broadcasting and columnist for 'Focus', found herself at the center of a media storm after being removed from moderating the show 'Klar' at Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR). Ruhs, who studied democracy and communication science in Passau, Regensburg, and Rome, had been criticized for her conservative views and approach to addressing controversial issues. These criticisms came to a head when entertainer Jan Böhmermann labeled her as right-wing populist.
The controversy surrounding Ruhs' work at NDR began when an episode of 'Klar' critically addressed migration policy, drawing significant internal criticism. NDR presenter Anja Reschke even described the format moderated by Ruhs as 'a bit right-wing extremist', for which the broadcaster later apologized.
Despite the controversy, NDR and WDR want to continue the format's approach of addressing controversial issues. However, the future of the show 'Klar', jointly produced by NDR and Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR), remains unclear, with each broadcaster bringing in their own editions.
NDR has removed Ruhs from moderating their part of the show 'Klar' and is currently searching for a new moderator to take over the NDR's segments. No name has been announced yet for her replacement. Ruhs' entire 'Klar' team shares her disappointment and shock at NDR's decision.
Ruhs, a vocal critic of NDR's decision, called it a 'disgrace'. She expressed her disappointment in a statement, saying, 'I am deeply disappointed by NDR's decision not to let me moderate the format 'Klar' for the NDR. I am shocked that NDR, which fosters an open discussion culture and protects its employees by treating internal exchange confidentially and not making any public statements about it, has now chosen a different path.'
Despite this setback, Ruhs remains a prominent figure in German media. She is the author of the book 'Left-green opinion power - The division of our country.' and will continue her work for the productions of Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR).
