On September 11, 2025, a nationwide test of emergency warning systems will take place, known as the National Warning Day. This event, organised by the Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance, aims to sensitize the population to emergency warnings and the various warning channels.

In Baden-Württemberg, the Modular Warning System (MoWaS) will be used to conduct the test. This system, overseen by the Ministry of the Interior, for Digitalization and Communities, connects a wide range of warning means, including cell broadcast, radio and television stations, newspaper editorial offices and online services, digital city information boards, warning apps such as NINA, KATWARN, BIWAPP, and some regional apps, and even some transport companies and sirens (which will be connected in the future).

Last year, a total of 264 warning messages were issued via MoWaS in Baden-Württemberg. All connected warning means can be triggered simultaneously and with a single input via MoWaS, ensuring a swift and effective warning system.

The test will involve various warning channels, including mobile apps, cell broadcast, radio, television, sirens, loudspeaker vehicles, and city information boards. The authorities responsible for risk prevention in Baden-Württemberg, including the State Office for the Environment, the State Office for Disaster Control, the State Police, and local fire and rescue services, will coordinate risk management, civil protection, and warning systems at the state and municipal levels.

After the National Warning Day, a survey will be available for the population to share their experiences and perceptions about the warning day and the various warning means. This feedback is crucial in improving the emergency warning system and ensuring it meets the needs of the population.

The National Warning Day also aims to test the technical warning infrastructure and find possible weaknesses in the system. This is an ongoing process to ensure that the emergency warning system remains effective and reliable.

For more information about the National Warning Day, contact the Press Office and Citizen Representative of the Ministry of the Interior, for Digitalization and Communities, which can be found online. Municipalities can also test their local warning systems in addition to the national test.

Stay informed and prepared for the National Warning Day on September 11, 2025. It's important to know the various warning channels and how to respond appropriately in an emergency situation.
