German MP backs EUDI Wallet to revolutionize pharmacy digitalization in Dresden
Dr. Markus Reichel (CDU), a German MP, visited Knut Pharmacy in Dresden to discuss digitalization in pharmacies. He praised the EUDI Wallet as a potential 'game-changer', enabling patients to grant consents for medication redemptions and streamlining logistics. However, he also highlighted challenges and pledged to work on a legally secure framework.
Reichel acknowledged the advancements in pharmacies, such as digital inventory control and secure telematics integration. He praised the EUDI Wallet's potential to ease staff workload through digital powers of attorney and delegations, ensuring high security and preventing misuse. He suggested Dresden as an ideal location for pilot testing.
However, Reichel also addressed challenges. Michael Gäbe, a pharmacist, noted two key issues with current telematics infrastructure (TI) systems: limited functionality and the need for patient-centered exchange. Gäbe criticized the lack of fee adjustments and competition from foreign mail-order pharmacies. Reichel agreed, emphasizing the need for standardized interfaces and a legally secure framework for the EUDI Wallet.
Pharmacies offer valuable services like medication reviews and vaccinations. Reichel believes digitalization, like the EUDI Wallet, can improve care quality and provide relief. He pledged to work towards a secure framework and nationwide standardized interfaces, making the EUDI Wallet a potential 'playmaker' for pharmacies.
