German drummer, Eva Klesse, and American saxophonist, Marshall Allen, have bagged the German Jazz Award 2025. Klesse snagged the title "Artist of the Year", while Allen scooped up the "International Artist of the Year" accolade, as announced by Musik. These highly esteemed trophies come with a sweet 12,000 euros cash prize.
Born in 1986, this versatile powerhouse delivers her beats not only as a drummer but also as a composer across various projects. With the globe being her half-conquered playground thanks to numerous concert tours, Klesse is swiftly making her mark on the German jazz scene as one of its rising stars.
Marshall Allen, a jazz titan for decades, clocked his birth year at 1924 in Louisville, Kentucky. This musical maestro has left his impression on every jazz era since the 1940s. Sadly, the old master has now hung up his wings for long-haul flights.

In total, 22 outstanding talents and projects were recognized. Besides Eva Klesse and Marshall Allen, South African improvisation artist Nduduzo Makhathini was crowned "International Live Act of the Year". Carl Wittig's Aurora Oktett earned the title "Big Ensemble of the Year". The coveted "Radio Production of the Year" was bestowed upon "Allgäu meets India - hr-Bigband featuring Matthias Schriefl".
Before the ceremony, it was already known that jazz and schlager singer Uschi Bruening would be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award, affectionately nicknamed "The Ella Fitzgerald of the East".
