Escalating Conflict in the Middle East: What Germans Should Know

German-Israeli repatriate flight touched down for second time

Hey there! The situation in the Middle East, particularly in Israel and Iran, has become increasingly dangerous for German citizens due to the ongoing conflict. Here's a breakdown of the current situation and what you need to know if you find yourself caught in the midst of it.

Stranded in Israel? Here's the Lowdown:- Berlin recently organized a special flight to repatriate a group of Germans and their family members from Israel, making it the second such flight. The flight landed in Berlin with 174 passengers on board.- Our second evacuation flight is planned for this coming Saturday from Amman, Jordan. However, registration for this flight comes with a fee, and it's only open to Germans, their spouses, and minor children.- Several airlines are also offering flights from Amman to Germany for those looking for alternative options.- If you're looking to leave Israel, remember that you'll need to make your way to Jordan independently. While other European countries are organizing convoys to Jordan for their nationals, the Federal Foreign Office strongly advises against this option, citing added risks such as lengthy waits at collection points.

Thinking About Leaving Iran? Here Are Your Options:- Due to the escalating conflict, the German government strongly advises Germans currently in Iran to leave via land to neighboring countries like Armenia or Turkey. The border crossings there are currently open. In certain instances, it may also be possible to exit via the border to Azerbaijan.- Once in Armenia, Turkey, or Azerbaijan, you can continue your journey to Germany by commercial flight.- The German embassies in these countries are on standby to support your departure and can be reached around the clock.

A Few More Things You Should Know:- As of June 2025, over 4,000 Germans are registered in Israel and over 1,000 in Iran on the Federal Foreign Office's crisis preparedness list, Elefand.- Following the escalation in Israel and Iran, several European countries have organized convoys to Jordan to evacuate their nationals. This joint effort among EU member states is intended to facilitate the efficient repatriation of citizens in the conflict zone.- Over 400 EU citizens have been evacuated as of June 19, 2025, with several countries repatriating their citizens via government planes or private charters.

Remember, when faced with conflict zones, it's crucial to stay informed, be vigilant, and follow the advice of local authorities and your own government. Stay safe out there!
