Thomas Müller Joins Vancouver Whitecaps FC, Bringing Star Power to Canadian Soccer

In a major move for Canadian club soccer, Thomas Müller, the legendary German attacking midfielder, has signed with Vancouver Whitecaps FC for the remainder of the 2025 Major League Soccer (MLS) season, with an option as a Designated Player for 2026.

The Whitecaps acquired Müller's Discovery Priority from FC Cincinnati in exchange for General Allocation Money totaling up to $400,000 across 2025 and 2026, including conditional amounts. This signing is hailed as one of the biggest in Whitecaps history and a significant statement for the club, adding a globally recognised star to a team with strong competitive ambitions.

Müller, who turns 26 this year, spent 25 years with FC Bayern Munich, where he won twelve league titles and two Champions League trophies among his numerous accolades. His move to Vancouver marks a new chapter in his career, as indicated by his Instagram post featuring his new mustache and the hashtags "#NewChapter" and "#NewStyle."

The post, which received over 14.8 million views, generated comments and reactions from his followers, including approval from fellow footballers Felix Neureuther and Rafinha. Neureuther, a 41-year-old ski star, commented "Of course," in support of Müller's mustache, while Rafinha, a former teammate of Müller, gave his approval with "Servus Moustache."

While the significance of Müller's new mustache remains unclear, it seems to be a part of his adaptation to his new employer. Müller's contract details cover the rest of the 2025 season, with a Designated Player option for 2026. He occupies an International Roster Slot at Vancouver, filling a spot opened due to a season-ending injury.

Müller's move to the MLS was not unexpected, as he had previously revealed his intentions to join the league after his time with FC Bayern Munich. With Müller's addition, Vancouver Whitecaps FC are poised to make a strong push towards the MLS Cup this season.
