Germany's Footballer of the Year Awards for 2024-25 Announced

In a thrilling conclusion to the football season, the winners of Germany's Footballer of the Year awards for the 2024-25 season have been announced.

Florian Wirtz has been crowned as the men's Footballer of the Year, receiving an impressive 191 votes out of more than 600 journalists surveyed by Kicker magazine[1][2][4]. Wirtz, who played for Bayer Leverkusen during the season before transferring to Liverpool, contributed 31 goals and assists combined across all competitions, including strong performances at Euro 2024 and the Champions League[1][3].

For the women's Footballer of the Year award, the title was shared between Giulia Gwinn and Ann-Katrin Berger. Both players received 608 votes from members of the Association of German Sports Journalists in the same Kicker-organized poll[2].

Giulia Gwinn, despite suffering a tournament-ending injury during Germany's opening match of the Women's European Championship against Poland, played a crucial role in Germany's women's team reaching the semifinals[1][2]. Ann-Katrin Berger, who led her National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) side, Gotham, to the semifinals, also made numerous outstanding saves during the Women's European Championship in Switzerland, which saw Germany's women's team finish in an unspecified position[1].

In a remarkable achievement for Wirtz at just 22 years old, he becomes the men's Footballer of the Year, while the shared award for the women's prize marks a rare occasion[1][2]. A total of 633 members of the VDS cast votes for all awards[2].
