The nominations for this year's German Film Awards have been announced. A total of six films will compete for Best Feature Film, with In die Sonne schauen leading the pack. The ceremony will take place in Berlin on May 29. Mascha Schilinski's In die Sonne schauen tops the list with 11 nominations. It is in the running for Best Feature Film, Best Director, and Best Screenplay. The film's strong showing makes it a standout contender this year.
Three other films have also earned multiple nods. Gelbe Briefe received 9 nominations, while Ach, diese Lücke, diese entsetzliche Lücke and Das Verschwinden des Josef Mengele each secured 7. The latter stars 84-year-old Senta Berger, who is up for Best Leading Actress.
In the documentary category, three titles are competing: Siri Hustvedt – Dance Around the Self, Soldaten des Lichts, and Im Prinzip Familie. For Best Children's Film, Das geheime Stockwerk and Zirkuskind have been shortlisted. Meanwhile, Michael 'Bully' Herbig's comedy Das Kanu des Manitu is nominated for the year's highest-grossing film.
The ceremony will also honour veteran director Wim Wenders with an Honorary Award. Last year's Best Feature Film winner was September 5, recognised in 2025. The German Film Awards will celebrate achievements across multiple categories on May 29. In die Sonne schauen enters as the most nominated film, while established names like Senta Berger and Wim Wenders will be among the honourees. The winners will be announced during the Berlin event.
