German Film Award goes to "September 5"

The curtain just dropped, and the winner is... "September 5"! This heart-pounding film about the 1972 Munich Olympics attack snatched nine out of ten categories at the German Film Awards.

Directed by Tim Fehlbaum, "September 5" tells the story from an intriguing perspective – that of an American TV crew covering the Olympics. But instead, they find themselves live reporting the Israeli athletes' hostage crisis at the hands of a Palestinian terrorist group. With its gripping plot and meticulous storytelling, it's no wonder this film captured the hearts of the judges.

The Golden Lola CeremonyThe grand ceremony took place at the Theater am Potsdamer Platz in Berlin, graced by over 1,700 guests, including the new Minister of State for Culture, Wolfram Weimer.

E Addressing the audience, Liv Lisa Fries, who won Best Actress for her portrayal of NS resistance fighter Hilde Coppi in "In Love, Yours, Hilde", shared her excitement: "I'm still shaking. This is a dream come true!"

The Silver Lola went to "The Seed of the Holy Fig Tree" by Mohammad Rasoulof, while "In Love, Yours, Hilde" took home the Bronze Lola.

A Chance MeetingA poignant moment during the ceremony was the sudden announcement of Margot Friedländer's death - a Holocaust survivor who was 103 years old. As the audience rose to honor her memory, pianist Igor Levit, who was supposed to deliver a laudation for Best Film Music, paused and asked for a moment of silence.
