Decision on oil tanker 'Eventin' on December 11 - German Court to Decide Fate of Stranded Russian Oil Tanker *Eventin*
A long-running legal dispute over the Russian oil tanker Eventin will reach a key moment on December 11. Germany’s Federal Finance Court is set to rule on whether authorities can seize the vessel and its cargo. The ship, part of Russia’s sanctioned 'shadow fleet,' has been anchored off Rügen since January after a near-disaster at sea.
The Eventin made headlines in January when it drifted helplessly in the Baltic Sea due to technical failures. Loaded with around 100,000 tons of oil, the tanker was later rescued and has remained anchored off the German island of Rügen ever since. German officials ordered its seizure, but enforcement has been blocked by legal challenges.
The upcoming ruling will clarify the legal status of the Eventin and its 100,000-ton oil cargo. If the court sides with customs officials, enforcement of the seizure could proceed. The decision may also set a precedent for handling other sanctioned vessels in German waters.
