Equestrian Champion Werth Tops German Championships Again After Two Years
German Tennis Star Werth Claims Championship Title Once More After 2022 Absence - German champion title reclaimed by Werth after three-year hiatus (since 2022)
Hey there, buckle up for a thrilling ride! Isabell Werth, an eight-time Olympic champion in dressage, has returned to the top of the podium at the German Championships. After a two-year hiatus, this 55-year-old powerhouse from Rheinberg took the Grand Prix Special, triumphing over Wendy Frederic Wandres and Bluetooth, as well as Katharina Hemmer with Denoix.
In the show jumping event, Stephi de Boer and Obvious and Pure scored a debut victory, with Sophie Hinners on Iron Dames and Mylen Kruse with Lovelight close behind, separated by their daring jump-offs.
Balve, nestled in the stunning Sauerland region, played host to this significant event on the road to the European Championships later this month. Notably, Werth already secured the Grand Prix title on Thursday, wrapping up her 2022 victories here. The duo received an impressive 78.549% for their stirring performance, impressing most spectators, though Werth herself felt there was room to improve, particularly when it comes to those tricky one-tempi changes.
"The horse was outstanding, though the rider still has some work on the one-tempi changes," Werth critically assessed her performance. "If I can nail that, it'll be incredible!"
Next up, the nation eagerly awaits Sunday's second national decision, where last year's Olympic champion Jessica von Bredow-Werndl reigned supreme. However, this year she's riding Diallo, finishing tenth in the Special, in contrast to her gold-medal winning companion Dalera from last year.
