Nils Ehlers and Clemens Wickler are one such German pair, who qualified despite an opening loss to the Bello brothers from England. They bounced back with a 2-0 victory over Olympic silver medalists Yves Haussener/Julian Friedli and another 2-0 win against Christoph Dressler/Philipp Waller to secure their place in the knockout stage. In the round of 16, Ehlers and Wickler will face Swedish youngsters Jacob Hölting Nilsson/Elmer Andersson.
Jonas and Benedikt Sagstetter and Sandra Ittlinger/Anna-Lena Grün are also German pairs that have made it to the round of 16. The exact opponents for these pairs are yet to be confirmed, but additional details suggest that Ittlinger/Grüne played against Swiss players Anouk/Zoé Vergé-Dépré in pool play.
Reigning champions Svenja Müller and Cinja Tillmann secured their spot in the round of 16 with a 2-0 win over Polish pair Malgorzata Ciezkowska/Urszula Lunio. They will face fellow Germans Paul Henning and Lui Wüst in the next round.
