German authorities are planning to issue a warning on the 11th of September.
Germany to Conduct Nationwide Civil Protection Drill on September 11th
Germany will hold its annual nationwide civil protection exercise day on Thursday, September 11th. The event, organised by the Federal Agency Technical Relief (THW), serves as a practice run for emergency situations and tests the readiness of the country's civil protection measures.
The Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK) will send test warnings via NINA and the Cell Broadcast system during the drill. This will provide citizens with a realistic simulation of how warnings are delivered in an emergency.
Citizens can receive further instructions via warning apps, radio stations, the city of Lünen's digital offerings, or the city administration's WhatsApp channel at https://www.ourwebsite/whatsapp. For those participating in the drill, an online survey will be available starting at 11 AM at warntag-umfrage.de.
In North Rhine-Westphalia, the siren test will follow a standard warning order: a one-minute steady tone, a one-minute rising and falling tone, and another one-minute steady tone. Sirens serve as an alert signal and do not contain detailed information. It's important to note that the city of Lünen will sound 28 sirens at 11 AM during the drill.
The city administration recommends seeking shelter in a building, closing doors and windows, and following further instructions via apps or radio in case of an actual emergency. An all-clear message will not be sent via the Cell Broadcast system; instead, it will be sent at 11:45 AM via warning apps.
For feedback on the audibility of the sirens, citizens can send an email to bevoelkerungsschutz@feuerwehr-unserwebsite. Further information about the drill can be found at bundesweiter-warntag.de.
It's crucial to remember that the emergency number (110/112) is only for acute emergencies. For non-emergency situations, citizens are encouraged to use the channels provided during the drill for receiving and providing feedback.
The nationwide civil defense drill is a valuable opportunity for the country to assess and improve its emergency response capabilities. By participating and providing feedback, citizens can play a vital role in ensuring the effectiveness of these measures.
