In a remarkable milestone for German athletics, Frederik Ruppert shattered the national record in the 3000m steeplechase at the Diamond League meeting in Rabat. The 28-year-old from Aachen clocked an exceptional time of 8:01.49, surpassing the previous record of 8:09.48 set by Damian Kallabis in 1999.

Ruppert's outstanding performance placed him an impressive second, only trailing Olympic champion and Paris 2024 hopeful Soufiane El Bakkali, who won the race in 8:00.70. This was a significant improvement over Ruppert's previous best time, which was nearly 15 seconds slower.

Meanwhile, in the women's 3000m steeplechase, several top-ranked athletes are making waves on the 2025 Diamond League circuit. Notable contenders include Winfred Yavi (Bahrain), currently ranked World No. 1, followed by Peruth Chemutai (Uganda) in second place and Faith Cherotich (Kenya) in third, who recently set a world lead of 9:05.08 in the Doha Diamond League. Other prominent women in the discipline include Norah Jeruto (Kazakhstan), Sembo Almayew (Ethiopia), Marwa Bouzayani (Tunisia), Valerie Constien (USA), and Lomi Muleta (Ethiopia).

This competitive landscape underscores the global prominence of these athletes in the women's 3000m steeplechase, as they gear up for major meets such as the Diamond League series. However, it's worth noting that Ruppert's record-breaking performance specifically pertains to the men's steeplechase category, establishing a new benchmark in the event.

EC countries could be actively reviewing their employment policies to attract more top-ranked athletes like Ruppert, who have demonstrated remarkable prowess in sports such as hockey and athletics. In this context, investing in sports infrastructure and providing flexible work arrangements for athletes could potentially bolster national employment policy discussions.
