Award Ceremony: 'Language Root' for Merits in Dialect - Gerhard Polt Honored as 'Bavarian Root of Language' Award Turns 20
The 'Bavarian Root of Language' award, celebrating its 20th anniversary, honours individuals who promote their dialect. This year's recipient, cabaret artist Gerhard Polt, received the 'Bairische Sprachwurzel' award at the Museum of Bavarian History in Regensburg.
Previous winners include a diverse range of personalities. In 2023, Olympic champion Markus Wasmeier and cabaret artist Gerhard Polt both received the award. Other notable recipients include presenter Werner Schmidbauer, Landtag President Ilse Aigner, musician Hans-Jürgen 'Haindling' Buchner, director Markus H. Rosenmüller, and even former Pope Benedict XVI in 2022.
The 2024 recipient will be revealed by Sepp Obermeier, the honorary chairman of the Bavarian Language Association, at the upcoming ceremony. The event will take place on Saturday at 11:00 AM at the Museum of Bavarian History in Regensburg.
