"Gerardo Herrero showcases the movie 'Carta Blanca', a production that revives the history of the Rif War"

In the sun-soaked landscapes of Andalusia, renowned director and producer Gerardo Herrero is bringing to life an epic tale of war and personal struggle with his latest project, 'Carta Blanca'. The film, a joint production between Bruja del Sur AIE and Tornasol Media, boasts an impressive cast including Iván Pellicer, Víctor Clavijo, and Salva Reina.

'Carta Blanca' delves into the Rif War, a conflict in the 1920s in Morocco, that remains a decisive and little-revisited chapter of Spain's history for Herrero. The story revolves around Juan Faura, played by Iván Pellicer, who enlists in the Legion and finds that war is a space for personal hatreds and military orders. Víctor Clavijo portrays Sergeant Antonio Bermejo, a character haunted by the brutal death of his brother during the Disaster of Annual.

The production effort for 'Carta Blanca' combines realism and visually intense staging, creating a gritty and raw portrayal of war. Herrero, who has driven over 175 fiction feature films, as well as documentaries and series, is no stranger to such ambitious projects. His work with international figures such as Ken Loach, Juan Jose Campanella, and Alex de la Iglesia has honed his ability to tell compelling stories.

'Carta Blanca' is based on Lorenzo Silva's award-winning novel from 2004. The project aims to tell a war story and also contribute to a broader debate about historical memory and the influence of past conflicts on the present. The film blends the epic of war cinema with the harshness of a forgotten truth, offering a unique perspective on a tumultuous period in Spanish history.

The shooting of the film is taking place in the Tabernas desert, in Almería, and the mining town of Alquife, in Granada. These locations provide the perfect backdrop for the film's intense and visually striking scenes. With the lead actors delivering powerful performances and Herrero's masterful direction, 'Carta Blanca' promises to be a riveting cinematic experience.
