Georgian Dream Announces Mayoral Nominees for 63 Towns and Cities
Georgia is gearing up for its 2021 municipal elections, and the Georgian Dream party has announced its candidates for various municipalities across the country.
Tbilisi: Kakha Kaladze Seeks Third Term
The only confirmed Georgian Dream party mayoral candidate available from the 2021 municipal elections information is Kakha Kaladze, who was nominated for a third term as mayor of Tbilisi. Kaladze, the incumbent mayor since 2017, was officially nominated by Georgian Dream on July 31, 2025, to run again in the upcoming local elections scheduled for October 4. This marks his third consecutive run in the Tbilisi mayoral race representing Georgian Dream [1][2][3][4][5].
Other Regions: A Mixed Bag of Incumbents and New Candidates
In Kvemo Kartli, Dauri Ismailov and Zamuri Chitanava, with public service and legal experience, are new candidates. In Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti, Sakrebulo chairmen and successful entrepreneurs like Zaza Kevanishvili are nominated as mayoral candidates. In Shida Kartli, Konstantine Buzaladze and Paata Chaduneli are incumbent mayoral candidates, but no new mayoral candidates are mentioned.
In Guria, Paata Kunchulia and Mindia Sunchia are new mayoral candidates in Ozurgeti and Chokhatauri, respectively. In Mtskheta-Mtianeti, Gogi Abuashvili and Koba Geladze are new mayoral candidates in Mtskheta and Kazbegi, respectively. In Kakheti, Aleksi Pitskhelauri, Giorgi Machavariani, and Malkhaz Begiashvili are running again as mayors, while Ilia Mzekalashvili, Vakhtang Kakutashvili, and Vazha Maghradze are new candidates.
Georgian Dream has presented mayoral candidates for 63 municipalities across Georgia.
Strengthening Trust in Local Government
Irakli Kobakhidze, the party's chairman and Prime Minister, announced the candidates. Kobakhidze concluded by saying that they are confident their candidates will win in their municipalities and that their goal is to secure victories in mayoral and city council elections in all 64 municipalities nationwide. The task is to further strengthen this trust in local party representatives, mayors, council members, and local government employees.
Local self-government enjoys high trust according to all surveys. Most candidates are already known to the public through banners and billboards.
