Georgia Tech faced a fine of $50,000 due to a stadium rush following their victory over Clemson, violating fieldstorming protocols.

The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) has taken a significant step towards ensuring the safety of student-athletes, coaches, officials, and fans at games with the introduction of a new security policy. The policy, which came into effect on July 22, 2022, covers football, men's basketball, and women's basketball for the 2025-26 academic year.

Under the new policy, only student-athletes, coaches, officials, and authorized personnel are permitted in competition areas before, during, and after games. Visiting team personnel and officials must be able to safely exit before fans can access the field or court. This measure is aimed at maintaining order and preventing potential incidents that could compromise the safety of all participants.

The ACC's new security policy also includes escalating fines for violations over a two-year period. The first school to receive a $50,000 fine under these new rules was Florida State University, following an incident where fans stormed the field after the victory celebration. Georgia Tech was the latest institution to face a fine of the same amount for a similar violation during their September 13 football game against Clemson University.

In both cases, the fans rushed the field after their team's victory, directly contradicting the ACC's updated event security policy. The ACC's statement regarding these violations emphasized the importance of adhering to the conference's event security policy for the safety and well-being of all participants.

The ACC's new security policy aims to create a safer environment for everyone involved in games, ensuring that the focus remains on the competition and the athletes' performances. The fines serve as a deterrent, encouraging schools to take the new policy seriously and maintain order during and after games.
