Atlanta Shooting: No Known Connection to CDC or Emory University

In a shocking turn of events, a shooting took place near the main campus of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, on August 8, 2025. The alleged shooter, identified as 30-year-old Patrick Joseph White, does not appear to have a known history or connection to either institution.

The incident occurred at 1600 Clifton Road, across the CDC campus, at about 4:50 pm (local time). White is believed to have fired at four buildings on the CDC campus before being found dead from a gunshot wound, possibly self-inflicted.

Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens stated that the shooter's motive has yet to be discovered. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation and other agencies are still investigating, and motives remain unknown. The FBI Atlanta team is enroute and coordinating with local partners for any assistance that might be needed.

Photos of bullet holes and window cracks on buildings at the CDC headquarters have been released on social media. Multiple rounds were fired, believed to be at law enforcement and potentially at the CDC. David Rose, a 33-year-old police officer with the DeKalb County Police Department, was tragically killed in the shooting.

Officer Rose, who had been with the department since September 2024, was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for medical aid but succumbed to his injuries after a standoff with the alleged shooter. The DeKalb County Police Department described Officer Rose as having served with courage, integrity, and unwavering dedication. Interim Police Chief Greg Padrick stated that David Rose was committed to serving the community.

David Rose is survived by a pregnant wife and two children. The FBI has offered full support for the ongoing investigation into the Georgia shooting. The shooter was a known person to the officials. This is an ongoing investigation.

Our thoughts and condolences go out to the family and friends of Officer David Rose during this difficult time.
