Two weeks ago, the world said goodbye to George Wendt, the iconic "Cheers" star, at the age of 76. The cause of his death has finally been disclosed.
TMZ obtained a copy of Wendt's death certificate, revealing that he succumbed to a heart attack. Coronary heart disease, high blood pressure, and poor kidney health were contributing factors. His cholesterol levels were also sky-high. The actor was cremated on May 28th.
Known for his portrayal of Norm in the hit sitcom "Cheers", Wendt appeared in every episode over its 11-season run. His exceptional performance earned him six consecutive Emmy nominations for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. Beyond "Cheers", Wendt has made appearances in shows like "The Tortellis" and "Frasier". He even starred in his own show, "The George Wendt Show", which aired in 1995 but was short-lived.
The news of Wendt's death has left a deep void among his colleagues and friends. Ted Danson, Wendt’s "Cheers" costar, shared his grief with The Hollywood Reporter: "I'm devastated to hear that Georgie is gone. I send all my love to Bernadette and the kids. It's going to take a long time to get used to this. I love you, Georgie."
John Ratzenberger, who played Cliff in the series, also paid tribute to Wendt: "For eleven years on 'Cheers', we shared a stage, many laughs, and a front-row seat for one of television's most beloved friendships. George brought Norm to life with a subtle brilliance - the kind that makes it look effortless. That was his gift."
