George Clooney's Unusual 'Dracula' Audition Didn't Stop His Rise to Fame

Nearly 35 years ago, a young George Clooney auditioned for a role in Francis Ford Coppola's 'Bram Stoker's Dracula'. The audition, which Coppola found unusual, did not secure Clooney a part, but it did not hinder his stellar career. Clooney, aiming to star in the sexually charged horror film, left Coppola with a memorable impression. The director, who initially considered Daniel Day-Lewis for the title role, ultimately cast Gary Oldman. Clooney's audition was so unusual that Coppola contacted his agent to inquire if he was under the influence. Ironically, not getting the role in 'Bram Stoker's Dracula' might have paved the way for Clooney's future success. Had he landed the part, he might not have starred in Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino's 'From Dusk Till Dawn', a critically acclaimed vampire film. Tom Waits played the role of R.M. Renfeld in Coppola's film, while Keanu Reeves portrayed Jonathan Harkness. Despite the unusual audition, Clooney's career has flourished. He has since starred in numerous films, winning an Academy Award for 'Syriana' and becoming a Hollywood icon. Coppola, who directed some of the best movies in cinema history, continues to influence filmmaking with his unique vision.
