World's Largest Advent Calendar House Opens First Window - Gengenbach’s Town Hall Unveils the World’s Largest Advent Calendar for 2024

Gengenbach’s town hall has once again become the world’s largest Advent calendar. For nearly 30 years, the building has transformed each December, drawing crowds with its festive display. This year, illustrator Olaf Hajek has taken full creative control, designing all 24 windows for the first time in the calendar’s history.

The tradition began in 1996, when the town hall first became an oversized Advent calendar. Each evening at 6:00 p.m., a new window is unveiled, revealing the artwork behind it. The first window has already been opened, marking the start of this year’s celebration.

The Advent calendar will stay open for visitors until early January. Hajek’s designs, combined with Gengenbach’s long-standing tradition, continue to draw crowds from across the region. The town’s festive influence has even reached Berlin, with its trees decorating key locations in the capital.
