Gearing up for post-driving lesson adventures in the notorious "Green Hell"
As the Formula 1 season enters its final stretch, the race for the championship is heating up. Dutch driver Max Verstappen and McLaren's promising duo, Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris, are making heads turn with their impressive performances.
Max Verstappen, who recently secured his license for the Nordschleife and will participate in the 24-hour race in April 2023, has been a force to reckon with. His dominant victory in Monza is seen as a sign of things to come in the remaining races. The Red Bull camp expects further victories from Verstappen, and if he performs well, a three-way title fight could occur.
On the other hand, McLaren's strategy of not favouring either Piastri or Norris has sparked debate. A triumph by either Piastri or Norris in the driver's championship would be expected, and anything less would be a disappointment. The two are in a prominent position in a title decision for the first time.
Norbert Haug, former motorsport director at McLaren partner Mercedes, believes in Verstappen's comeback in the championship. He also mentioned the 'Papaya Rules' and their potential influence on the 2025 championship decision. Haug, who is also optimistic about Verstappen's performance in Baku and fast tracks, believes that competition without team orders is the only fair way to operate motorsport.
However, current champions league standings and fan opinion suggest Oscar Piastri as a strong contender. He leads the standings ahead of teammate Lando Norris, while Verstappen trails behind them. Incidents between Piastri and Norris, such as the one where Piastri was instructed to let Norris pass after his botched pit stop, have cost points.
In 2007, two McLaren drivers competed for the title, with Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso as competitors. If Norbert Haug's statement about Max Verstappen being a possible title contender is confirmed, Verstappen could be the Formula 1 World Champion in the 2023 season. But, the race is far from over, and it's anyone's game.
Meanwhile, Helmut Marko, motorsport consultant, is backing Verstappen's bid for the title. He is optimistic about Verstappen's performance in Baku and fast tracks. As the season progresses, the tension between the top contenders is palpable, and it promises to make for an exciting finish to the 2023 Formula 1 season.
McLaren could also win the constructors' championship again this weekend in Baku, adding another layer of excitement to the already thrilling season. The battle for the Formula 1 championship is shaping up to be one for the ages, with Verstappen, Piastri, and Norris all vying for the coveted title.
