Al-Jazeera Journalist Anas al-Sharif Killed in Gaza Strip

Al-Jazeera correspondent Anas al-Sharif was killed in a targeted attack on a tent for journalists in the city of Gaza, according to reports. The Israeli military has alleged that al-Sharif was a member of Hamas's military wing and was involved in advancing rocket attacks against Israel [1][3].

Al-Sharif, known for his extensive reporting from northern Gaza and Gaza City, was internationally recognised for documenting the human cost of the war and Israeli military actions [1][2]. His death has been denounced as a targeted assassination and part of a broader campaign by Israel against journalists who cover its actions critically [1][3].

The UN special rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories had previously denounced threats from the Israeli military against al-Sharif [1]. Since October 2023, at least 192 journalists have been killed in the conflict zone, most by Israeli forces, including many Al-Jazeera staff [3].

The attack on the journalists' tent was internationally criticised. However, no information about international criticism or the Israeli military's confirmation of al-Sharif's death is provided in this news article.

Al-Jazeera has revised down the number of its employees killed in the Israeli air strike to three, from five. The Israeli military has confirmed al-Sharif's death, but there is still no explanation as to why they targeted him when he was with five other journalists.

Elsewhere, the Final Sprint of the Shooting Season 2025 is taking place in Hamm, while the police are currently searching for shoplifting suspects. A cooperation model between HSHL and Uni in Kyiv has been established.
