Gaza City witnesses escalating opposition towards the offensive
In a recent development, the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, announced plans for a new administration in the Gaza Strip, but the demand for the establishment of Jewish settlements in the region remains unclear.
Netanyahu's coalition partners have been silent on the issue of Jewish settlements in the context of the Gaza Strip administration plan. The most recent authoritative statement from August 2025 focuses on Israel's plan for a complete military takeover of the Gaza Strip, a move that has been strongly condemned by the United Nations.
The UN statement calls for an immediate halt to this military takeover plan, emphasising adherence to the two-state solution and Palestinian self-determination. It also stresses humanitarian considerations, the release of hostages, and the cessation of arbitrary detentions. However, it does not address any plans or demands about Jewish settlement in Gaza.
Netanyahu has stated that Israel does not seek a long-term civilian presence in the Gaza Strip. Instead, he proposed a "non-Israeli" institution to take over administration in the region. In response to criticism of his announced offensive on Gaza City, Netanyahu addressed the criticism for the first time on Sunday.
In a bid to transparency, Netanyahu also announced that he plans to grant "some" journalists access to the Gaza Strip. It remains to be seen how this access will be managed and what information it will reveal about the status of Jewish settlement demands in the region.
As the situation unfolds, it appears that the current status of Jewish settlement demands in Israel's Gaza administration plan is either absent from public official discourse or not prioritized in the context of the announced military takeover and associated international responses.
