Gaya Bertello, a 22-year-old sprinter from Turin, has been selected for the national team for the World Championships in Tokyo. This marks the third time Bertello has been chosen to represent her country on the global stage.

Bertello's recent success can be traced back to her return from rehabilitation in 2024. After overcoming her injuries, she improved her 100m time to 11.43 and won bronze at the under-23s in Grosseto in the 200m, clocking a time of 24.10.

The World Championships will take place from September 13 to 21. Prior to the event, Bertello will attend a training camp in Rome from August 24 to 30.

Bertello's career has not been without its challenges. In 2022, she tore her ACL, meniscus, and injured her collateral ligament, requiring a year of rehabilitation. Despite this setback, Bertello has shown resilience and determination, bouncing back stronger than ever.

Bertello's proudest moment in her career so far was winning the indoor category title in 2025 and coming second at the nationals. This achievement boosted her confidence and cemented her place among Italy's top athletes.

Bertello is a member of Novatletica Chieri. She started her athletic journey in fourth grade with artistic gymnastics but switched to athletics during the Youth Games.

Off the track, Bertello enjoys relaxing by listening to music, watching TV shows and movies, and spending time with family and friends. She also has a few small superstitions, including not being able to run without red nail polish and braids at the Italians.

Bertello's relationship with her coach, Serena Putinati, is more than just coach and athlete. It's also a friendship that pushes her to give her best. Bertello has also formed a close bond with fellow athlete Clarissa Vianelli, often chatting, venting, and supporting each other during competitions.

Looking to the future, Bertello has set her sights on making athletics her job and joining a military corps. She also hopes to work on her self-esteem and believes that her future is bright.

Bertello's advice for those dreaming of becoming an athletic competitor is to never give up, even when it seems impossible. With hard work, dedication, and a positive attitude, anything is possible.
