Gatineau Women's Time Trial: Lieke Nooijen leads the pack, with Emily Ehrlich finishing as runner-up
Emily Ehrlich Finishes Second in Chrono Féminin de Gatineau
American cyclist Emily Ehrlich put up a valiant effort but ultimately finished second in the Chrono Féminin de Gatineau time trial race in Gatineau, Canada. Local rider Lieke Nooijen claimed victory, recording her first win of the season.
The race, held on a new 22.2km circuit that took riders across the Ottawa River into Ontario, saw Ehrlich carrying the number one bib as the US elite women's TT winner from May. Despite starting 12 riders behind Nooijen in the second wave, Ehrlich made significant progress, passing Julie Lacourciere, who started one minute in front. However, Ehrlich could not make up the difference to Nooijen, who set the best intermediate time and the best finishing time in the race.
Nooijen, who won the race in Canada, had the second-best time split until Ehrlich went by one second faster. The U-turn in the race was at kilometre 4.5 on the first pass and kilometre 15.5 on the second pass.
Ehrlich's second-place finish comes after a successful run at the Pan American Track Championships in 2025, where she won gold medals in both the Individual Pursuit and Team Pursuit. She also took silver in the time trial at the Road Pan-Ams. Ehrlich last raced in June at the Armed Forces Cycling Classic.
The field in Gatineau was absent the top seven riders from the previous year, with Julie Lacourciere, who finished eighth in 2024, being the highest returning competitor. The results of the events are powered by FirstCycling.
Friday's UCI 1.1 time trial will be followed by a road race on Saturday and a criterium on Sunday. Isabelle Mayrand was the first rider down the start ramp.
In the end, Nooijen's local knowledge and strong performance proved too much for Ehrlich to overcome, securing her first victory of the season in Gatineau. Ehrlich will look to bounce back in the upcoming road race and criterium events.
